The shapes of the Body
«A Yoga posture can be simply a mechanical action, an exercise. That’s fine if this is what you want. Is it what you want? If you desire more, then begin not by diligently forcing yourself into the forms, but let the forms emerge from you ». Bonnie Bainbridge Cohen (kind of an ultimate guru 🙏✨ along with my beloved teachers - they know who they are!😘✨).
✨
There are moments when I go to a yoga practice and I feel like a good workout done and this is all so great. And, there are also moments when I feel I need to feel more at the soul level, to nourish the deeper layers of my being.
✨
Quite a lot of yoga classes can feel at times a bit soul-less. At least from my highly subjective perspective. I could then forget what Yoga is about and what yoga asanas are about. 🤔
✨
I stop calling « asanas » - postures and instead I use the word « shapes » as really, those shapes are quite secondary to what can happen on a yoga mat if we pay attention. Shapes are only doorways to layers of the Self but there do not seem to be the aim of a yoga practice.
✨
Of course, there are moments when, as a yoga facilitator, I do not manage well to transmit much more than few sun salutations and 2 or 3 abs exercises, but I keep on trying to transmit what I feel from the intuitive Self. Not about books or theories but rather about experiencing & experimenting. Humbly, I hope to be able to hold you (and myself in the process) to trust what is here in the body (not elsewhere) to rebound with it... And that’s what I truly long for.
✨
Receiving postures, instead of forcing them to be shapes which do not align with what we are at a particular moment, but that we do because we are told to or because our mat neighbor seems to master them.
Instead, the invitation is to better « sense », « feel » with great awareness, whether we like or not what we feel or sense.
✨
As a yoga facilitator, I promise to hold you, hold you in that particular space of inner listening. I may fail, but I promise to keep on trying.
